PRODUCTS AND MATERIALS
CASE STUDY BUILDINGS

This section includes a information on the reusability and recyclability of building materials.

The information in set out following the National Building Specification clauses. Some examples of building products that can be found in the UK building market have been included to illustrate the generic principles discussed, these are not the only examples of building materials and products possessing the characteristics discussed and designers and specifiers are encouraged to search the market before specifying products.
The construction methods have been rated using a set of criteria developed as part of a research project investigating the end of life options for materials and products. Refer to the paper ' Study of current building methods that enable .......', which outlines the background and the development of the criteria used to evaluate the building products.

Designing for recycling and reuse is still in its infancy and the assessment of the products analysed has been mainly undertaken at a theoretical level and based on limited practical experience. As the experience of using such technologies increases it will be possible to refine the assessments undertaken.
